#FeatureFriday: Where to shop for holiday décor in Oakville

One of my favourite budget-friendly holiday activities is grabbing a hot chocolate and going for a drive to see all the houses adorned with twinkling lights. Seasonal décor really adds a warmth and coziness to this time of year, and decorating can be easy with a little help from local shops.

I popped into some shops in Downtown Oakville, Bronte Village and Kerr Village to gather some décor-related intel and share some of my top stores and picks for the season. Browse these shops yourself or order online for curbside pickup or delivery. There are plenty of ways to support Oakville’s small businesses while staying safe this winter.

Write Impressions (222 Lakeshore Rd. E)

I have always envied those who build an entire mini holiday village on their mantel or under their tree. The Downtown Oakville shop Write Impressions can make that dream a reality with their vast array of glittering, snow-topped homes, churches and evergreen trees. Take a moment to pick-up holiday cards, wrapping paper and one of their whimsical ballerina elephant or mouse ornaments while you’re there.

Maker’s Mojo (331 Lakeshore Rd. E)

This Downtown Oakville shop focuses on providing niche, handmade products making each item feel special. They carry everything from cute scrunchies to candles, apparel, ornaments with pop culture references and so much more. If you want to give yourself a little DIY project or have more of a hands-on approach to your holiday décor this season, pick up one of their cross-stitch embroidery kits with holiday designs. Embroidery is a great way to unwind after a long day and, once you’re done, you’ll be able to boast that you made that décor piece yourself.

Swiss Interiors (217 Lakeshore Rd. E)

Look no further than Downtown Oakville’s Swiss Interiors for the perfect ornament to dress up your holiday tree and add a little local flair. The shop is selling locally made wooden ornaments, one of which is designed with Oakville in mind and includes etchings of quintessential areas and activities that make our town special. These are the perfect way to personalize your holiday tree for years to come!

Nicety’s (146 Lakeshore Rd. E)

The name of this Downtown Oakville kitchenware shop says it all – it’s filled with nice little details to add those final touches to your seasonal décor. As a hobby baker, there’s nothing quite like holiday baking with the cozy, warm flavour combinations. Make your holiday dinners and baking a little more special this year by adding a dash of holiday joy with festive dishtowels, salt and pepper shakers and/or baking spatulas.

Dove + Arrow (363 Kerr St.)

Dove + Arrow is a local lifestyle shop with unique gifts in Kerr Village. They have many cute trinkets for purchase as well as DIY kits. They also host workshops for you to dip your toe into the DIY world with some expert assistance. This holiday season, the shop also features holiday-themed hand-poured soy candles, welcome mats, tabletop décor and adorable gnomes to dress up your shelves and mantles.

Flower Deco (35 Lakeshore Rd.)

No décor list is complete without a floral option to fill your home with the nostalgic scent of fresh pine and garland. Kerr Village’s Flower Deco has gorgeous holiday arrangements for both indoor and outdoor decoration. Put up a fresh wreath or dress up the steps to your front door with their holiday arrangements to create a warm welcome for guests before they even step into your home!

Lakeside Livin’ (100 Bronte Rd.)

This Bronte Village shop has truly transformed for the holiday season with décor items packed everywhere in the shop! You’ll be met with friendly shopkeepers, holiday music being played from a vintage looking toy TV, and enough décor options for every room in your home. For the majority of the year, Lakeside Livin’ boasts an impressive array of nautical lake house items, but the holiday selection will have you dreaming of living in a snow-covered A-frame.

My Back Shed (2359 Lakeshore Rd. W)

Take a trip to Paris during the holidays with a visit to this Bronte Village antique shop. While the store is filled with custom painted and upholstered French country antiques, there are so many smaller treasures scattered amongst the furniture. The shop is a marvel during the holiday season with décor items from gnomes, ornaments, pillows, and various tabletop items. I guarantee a visit to this shop will have you leaving feeling so much holiday joy and spirit.

One of the ways we can give back this season is making a concerted effort to support local by shopping at the stores available in our own backyard. There’s also something special about proudly displaying décor that’s locally made, sourced and bought – it feels like an exclusive purchase that not just anyone can get their hands on! The care and detail the town of Oakville puts into their outdoor seasonal décor every year also gets me in the holiday spirit as I walk around and window shop.
