I know Halloween just ended, but it’s probably best to avoid the rush of holiday shopping this year and start planning ahead for the upcoming season. Waiting until the last minute to gather gifts is much too stressful, so get a head start and grab some stocking stuffers from local shops in our neighbourhoods.
I popped into some shops in Kerr Village, Bronte Village and Downtown Oakville to start gathering some stocking stuffer intel and am here to share some of my top stores and picks for the season. Browse these shops yourself or order online for curbside pickup or delivery if you’re not comfortable being inside. There are plenty of ways to support Oakville’s small businesses while staying safe this winter.
Anthropologie (159 Lakeshore Rd. E)
Although this store is known for its well-made bohemian style clothing, it is also filled with goodies from cute mugs to hair accessories, dainty jewelry, home décor and baking aprons with adorable prints! This Downtown Oakville store also has a journal and stationary section that is always worth a browse. Consider picking up a new ornament to dress up your tree from their Christmas section.
My Back Shed (2359 Lakeshore Rd. W)
Take a trip to Paris with a visit to this Bronte Village antique shop. While the store is filled with custom painted and upholstered French country antiques to buy, there are so many smaller treasures scattered amongst the furniture. Indulge in their own store-brand candles, jewelry, canvas tote bags and bath and body products. Pair some of these products with some macarons from a local bakery to bring that luxurious Parisian experience right at home under the tree!
Dove + Arrow (363 Kerr St.)
Dove + Arrow is a local lifestyle shop with unique gifts. They have many cute trinkets for purchase as well as DIY kits that would make for a great stocking stuffer addition. Let your loved ones get a little craftier this season and give them a DIY custom pillow kit or DIY birdhouse. Dove + Arrow also hosts workshops for things like making geode coasters, resin charcuterie boards and paint pouring. Sign your loved on up for a workshop this season for a unique gift!
Village Cigar Company & Barbershop (315 Lakeshore Rd. E)
If there is someone in your life who enjoys the finer things, this shop cannot be missed. If you know a man in your life who might be in need of a clean-up, reserve a barber chair for him for a traditional cut and, if you’re feeling fancy, a hot towel straight razor shave. The shop also has items for purchase such as cigars, cigar accessories and shaving and grooming products. Give the gift of grooming this season!
Taste of Colombia (67 Bronte Rd.)
As someone with a father who is an absolute coffee connoisseur, you can never go wrong with a coffee-related stocking stuffer. Stuff a stocking with their December supply of beans from Bronte Village’s Taste of Colombia. The store offers a variety of fair-trade coffees, teas, Colombian snacks and other fair trade products. Make sure your family is caffeinated this season with the best offerings!
Corbetts Ski + Snowboard (120 Speers Rd.)
Show someone how much you love them by keeping their fingers and toes toasty for those chilly January and February days. Kerr Village’s Corbetts Ski + Snowboard carries big-ticket items like jackets, snow pants, ski goggles, skis and snowboards. They do also have smaller pieces like warm face coverings, toques, merino wool socks with fun patterns, and rows and rows of gloves. Bonus: their clearance store is right next door so you can also browse for a good sale!
Maker’s Mojo (331 Lakeshore Rd. E)
This Downtown Oakville shop focuses on providing niche, handmade products making each item feel special. They carry everything from cute scrunchies to candles, children’s apparel, jewelry and so much more. Check out the crocheted little critters in the children’s section for a stuffed animal that is bound to become any child’s favourite cuddle buddy.
Lord of War Games and Hobbies (124 Kerr St.)
This Kerr Village store is perfect for the hobbyist in your life. Their products will transport you into the fantasy worlds of graphic novels, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Dungeons and Dragons and so much more. This store also has board games, paints and 3D models, so there is something for everyone.
Simply Green Baby (67 Bronte Rd.)
This store is a haven for all things children’s gifts! Don’t let the “baby” in the name fool you, there are options for a variety of age groups. You can find everything from practical gifts such as lunch boxes, water bottles and thermoses, to clothing items, classic wooden toys, puzzles, cars, boats, Canadian-made playing putty… The list goes on and on. It would be fairly easy to get a lot of holiday shopping done in just this one store for all the kids in your life.
We recommend taking a peek at the stores’ websites for contactless shopping or ahead of your in-store visit to make your holiday shopping as safe and efficient as possible. Oakville is home to many small businesses to support this holiday season. Happy shopping!
