Summer might look a bit different this year, but you can still take advantage of the kids’ time off from school in Oakville!
Whether you live in town or are planning to visit from a neighbouring region, get your family circle out of the house and into a new environment with this safe weekend getaway.
Note: The suggestions below are based on information available on the publishing date. Please contact businesses directly to confirm.
Day 1: Crafting, fresh air and patio dining
Drive into Oakville and check into one of our local hotels. Make sure to book your time at the swimming pool right away so you don’t have to worry about securing a time slot later in your trip.
It’s time for a whole family to unwind, so start by booking a crafting session at Crackpot Studio or ordering ahead from local crafting shops like Dove + Arrow for some DIY projects you can take away for an afternoon in the park.
We know you’ve been cooped up the last little while, so run off some of that excess energy at local splash pads and skateboard parks, or enjoy the fresh air with a family bike ride on Oakville’s biker-friendly Crosstown Trail.
Starting to hear those tummies grumbling? Head to one of Oakville’s culinary districts in Downtown Oakville, Kerr Village or Bronte Village for a patio dinner overlooking the water. Prefer to stick with curbside pickup? Order takeout and experience the bright tastes of Oakville’s culinary masters from the comfort of your hotel room. See all the latest info about local shops and restaurants with our interactive map.
Day 2: Picnics, swimming and movies under the stars
Plan for a day in the sun beginning at Bronte Creek Provincial Park! Take to the trails, try your hand at fishing and get in a game of disc golf as the whole family explores this beautiful parkland.
Pack your own picnic or source out a takeaway lunch from a local restaurant and settle in for a beautiful lakeside picnic in Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park, Coronation Park, Waterworks Park or Lakeside Park.
Cool off and go for a dip at your hotel or schedule a swim session at one of Oakville’s local indoor or outdoor locations before heading back to your room to prepare for the fun night ahead.
Dress comfortably and pack in the pillows for a night under the stars at the 5 Drive-In! Settle in for two fantastic movies at this retro outdoor film experience that is perfect for those looking for a safe family activity this summer.
Day 3: Mini golf and ice cream
Kick up the competition on your last day in Oakville with a “small” round at the Vic Hadfield Golf and Learning Centre outdoor mini-putt course!
Stop by a lakeside park for one last look at our beautiful views, and finish off your weekend of fun with a sweet treat from one of Oakville’s renowned ice cream parlours.
