While recent travel restrictions may have limited many of your vacations, there are still plenty of opportunities to safely explore and support local!

Keep reading to learn more about becoming a tourist in your own town during this time.

1. Plan ahead

Exploration can’t be as spontaneous as it once was, so make sure to do your research ahead of time. Most activities or curbside pickup policies require advanced booking and increased wait times, so remember to schedule everything ahead of time.

2. Respect local rules

Please look into Oakville’s and Halton Region’s COVID-19 policies before settling into your leisure time. Please also remember to be respectful of local vendors and ask about their policies, as each individual business has conduct/hygiene regulations specific to their storefront.

3. Explore in smaller groups

Though you might be used to travelling the world with an entire crew of family and friends, small groups are more able to adhere to social distancing and local COVID-19 protocols. Instead of exploring with a large group, try stretching your legs with only those in your household.

4. Pack the essentials

Wallet, keys, phone, mask, hand sanitizer. All businesses require face coverings when indoors and we want you to enjoy Oakville to the fullest. Please come prepared with your most fashionable masks to ensure you’re keeping yourselves and everyone around you safe. Also, remember to wash and sanitize your hands frequently.

5. Social distance

We ask that everyone taking to our streets respects the rules of social distancing. Give people two metres of space inside and out and be respectful of others in your immediate area.

6. Be patient and kind

Because of the enhanced precautions each business is taking to ensure your safety during this time, their service might not come as quickly as normal. Please stay patient and remember that we’re all in this together.

7. Support local

Oakville’s tourism partners have been working diligently to welcome you back and are relying on your business to help stay afloat. Save the chains for later and support local small businesses that are working hard to serve the community during this time. Check out our shop and dine map for up-to-date information on local shops and restaurants.
