There is no better time to become a tourist in your own town by exploring the outdoors!
Oakville is a playground for those looking to take up a new winter sport, frolic through snow-capped sights and enjoy a lakeside holiday. Follow along with this two-day itinerary and learn more about your own town this winter.
Note: The suggestions below are based on information available in November. Please contact businesses directly to confirm.
Day 1: Cross-country skiing, tobogganing and holiday sights
Grab a warm cup of coffee from Vereda Central or Taste of Colombia before heading out to your first adventure in Bronte Creek Provincial Park! Take to the trails on cross-country skis or enjoy the tobogganing hills with your household before packing up for lunch.
Stretch those legs and explore the snow-capped sights on the lakeside trails in Downtown Oakville. You can see the Toronto skyline and the CN Tower across the water on a clear day. Don’t forget to take in the awe-inspiring holiday decor before you leave, including the Instagram-worthy ribbon tree in Towne Square.
Make a pit stop at one of this historic neighbourhood’s local restaurants for gourmet pickup. You can experience a taste of Oakville from home with restaurateurs like Dar Nabati, Coriander Green and Miso Sushi and Tapas.
Day 2: Trail trekking, winter sports and sunset sights
Start day two of your local adventure by exploring Oakville’s extensive trail system. Grab your skis or snowshoes and take advantage of the 15kms of groomed trails the Town of Oakville will be maintaining through the winter months. Select trails will also be cleared for cyclists, so you can still enjoy Oakville on wheels.
Recharge your battery with a takeaway lunch and browse local stores online for some great holiday finds. All three BIA’s are home to independent retailers that carry unique one-of-a-kind local products perfect for the holiday season.
Indulge in some classic Canadiana in the afternoon with a skate on one of Oakville’s outdoor rinks. Missing your favourite summer sports? Select local courts will be open and cleared throughout the winter so you can bundle up and indulge in a game of tennis or pickleball.
Get to Bronte Village in time for the sunset and enjoy the gorgeous colours of the sun melting into the lake. Their lakeshore will be lined with colourfully-decorated chairs as part of their ‘At Home in Bronte: Winter Edition‘ art show, so sit back, relax and take in the gorgeous sights of Oakville in the winter.
Say so long to Oakville with a takeaway meal at a Bronte establishment like La Parisienne Creperie. This restaurant is Feast On certified, so they strive to source local and create sustainably in everything they do.
