If you’re in Caledon for the RBC Canadian Open (June 4-8), why not take some time to explore the charming town of Oakville, just a short drive away?

Here are the top five things to do in Oakville:

  • Stroll through Bronte Creek Provincial ParkBronte Creek Provincial Park offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational activities.  Enjoy hiking or biking along scenic trails, have a picnic or visit the historic Spruce Lane Farmhouse. Take a walk down Gnome Road to explore a collection of whimsical little gnome and fairy houses!  It’s a great spot to relax and unwind amidst nature.  Tip – if you head there on June 4, you can participate in yoga in the park from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
  • Explore Downtown Oakville – Downtown Oakville is a vibrant area filled with boutique shops, gourmet restaurants and cozy cafes.  Wander through the picturesque streets, enjoy some local cuisine or stop in Towne Square.  Tip – Downtown Oakville is just a short walk to the famous Oakville Lighthouse.  And if you’re there June 5, you can check out Summer in the Square, an event that blends live music and live art or June 7 has the 4th Annual Black Music on the Block.
  • Visit the new exhibit at Oakville Galleries – The exhibit Between Heaven and Earth by Ilya & Emilia Kabakov will be at both of the gallery locations.  The exhibit highlights several of the artists’ works, including paintings, prints and installations. The largest installation is The Ship of Tolerance, a 60-foot long, hand-crafted wooden ship with sails made from children’s paintings, presented lakeside in Gairloch Gardens. Now, marking its 20th anniversary, this is its first appearance in Canada. (Over 2,000 children from local schools and diverse community groups in Oakville have played a part in creating The Ship of Tolerance project to date.)
  • Discover Bronte Village – Discover the charm of Bronte Village, a picturesque waterfront community that sits on the harbour and has an array of dining options and boutiques.  Right now, you can view the Bronte BIA’s collection of sixty new Muskoka Chairs painted by local artists, families and community groups and displayed across Bronte Village as part of their “At Home in Bronte” public art installation.  Tip – If you’re in Bronte on June 6, make sure to catch the Oakville Film Festival’s Movie under the stars at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park.

And of course, make sure to swing over to play a round of golf at Glen Abbey Golf Club, the iconic course that has hosted the Canadian Open thirty times!  Known for its challenging design and stunning landscape, Glen Abbey offers golf enthusiasts a chance to walk in the footsteps of legends!
