Summer is here and there is no better way to enjoy the season then spending time with your children and grandchildren in Oakville. Grab your sunglasses and sunscreen and start exploring Oakville’s parks, splash pads, restaurants, and attractions. This two-day itinerary will guide you through family-friendly places in Oakville tailored for three generations to enjoy!

Day 1:

Fun in the Sun

Start your morning off on the right foot with breakfast at either Pur and Simple or Sunnyside Grill before heading to Vic Hadfield Golf and Learning Centre. The golf and learning centre has 120 tee areas and an 18-hole hockey-themed mini putt course. Available on a first come first served basis.

After enjoying mini putt, continue your adventure at Coronation Park. This park offers endless fun with jungle gyms, a splash pad, a beach volleyball court, plenty of open space for games, and a picnic area. Be sure to reserve a picnic sport here before you arrive. Grab takeout at Salad Thai in Kerr Village on your way and spend the afternoon soaking up the sun at Coronation Park.

After exploring the park and enjoying your picnic, head to Playcious, an interactive indoor playground. Kids can ride on bumper cars, wall climb, do a ninja course, and play arcade games. Cheer your grandkids on from the sidelines or join in on the fun. Many of the activities are suitable for adults so you can play along with them.

After a fun-filled afternoon at Coronation Park and Playcious, you will certainly be ready for dinner. Visit The Firehall in Bronte Village, with a beautiful patio to enjoy dinner outside or in. (Tip – If you head there on a Monday night, two kids (10 & under) can eat for free from the kids’ menu with the purchase of an adult meal after 4:00 p.m.)  Once you have had your meal, grab an ice cream at the Flavour Fox, Happy Food Hub, or Duckies and enjoy the scenic Bronte Village and its harbours or meander around Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park to visit the newly painted Muskoka Chairs.

End the evening watching a movie with your family under the stars at the 5 Drive-In.

Day 2:

Make Memories in Oakville’s Downtown

Spend your morning exploring Downtown Oakville, where there is always something exciting happening. Whether it’s live music, farmer’s markets, silent discos, or the Mi Casa Your Casa swings, there’s plenty of fun to be had in Downtown Oakville. Throughout the summer, musicians perform outside on the sidewalks every Saturday and Sunday. Bring your family to listen and dance to the music as you discover the area.  And then refuel at one of the amazing bakeries along Lakeshore Road! Visit Downtown Oakville’s website to see what other activities and events are happening during your visit.

Once you have explored Downtown Oakville, make your way to Dave and Busters. Dave and Busters offers hours of entertainment with their interactive games and delicious lunch menu. Have a friendly game of air hockey before trying their award-winning food.

Continue the fun at your next stop, Hopedale bowl.  Challenge your grandkids to a game of glow in the dark bowling. This bowling alley has helped families create memories for the past 60 years. They recommend that you call and make reservations before you arrive.

Now it’s time to get creative. Head back to Downtown Oakville and create a keepsake from your weekend in Oakville at either Crack Pot Studio or Nuworld Botanicals.

Crack Pot is the perfect place to unleash your creativity. Paint at your leisure in this open and inviting space. They have a wide variety of pieces for you to choose from including tableware, home and garden accessories, figurines, piggy banks, and more. If you have a love for pottery and painting this is the place for you! Walk ins are welcome. It does take a week for your creation to be fully fired and glazed.

At Nuworld Botanicals, you can create, bake, and decorate fresh skincare, bath bombs, makeup, or candles. Make your own creation and treat yourself to a at home spa day. Reservations are recommended. Visit their website to learn more about products and how to make a reservation.

Next, just before the sun sets on another day, take a tour of Sixteen Mile Creek with CharterAbility. This fully accessible boat ride will take you on the creek to view Oakville’s shoreline and wildlife from the lake. Every cruise is forty minutes in length and free of charge. Reservations are required.

As your time in Oakville comes to an end, have one last meal as a family at the Works in Downtown Oakville. This family friendly restaurant is known for their innovative burger menu and their marvellous milkshakes.

There are many fun things to experience and family-friendly places in Oakville to enjoy.
