OAKVILLE – The Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport awarded Visit Oakville $38,000 through the 2022-23 Reconnect Ontario program. Visit Oakville will use the funds for Taste of Oakville held in the spring of 2023.

“This is an excellent opportunity to support the local tourism and hospitality industry,” said Sean O’Meara, Chair of the Visit Oakville board. “The 2022 event was a great success, and we are thrilled to bring it back again.”

Taste of Oakville is slated for February 18 to March 10, 2023. During the three-week culinary showcase, participating restaurants will offer carefully crafted prix fixe lunch and dinner menus to feature unique or popular dishes.

The Reconnect funds will be used to add an entertainment component to the event, in an effort to attract more people – visitors and residents alike.

“We thank the Ministry and MPP, Stephen Crawford, for their support of Taste over the past few years,” said Rebecca Edgar, Visit Oakville’s executive director.

Visit Oakville took the reins of Taste of Oakville in 2021, offering the first Oakville-wide event and supporting the hard-hit tourism and hospitality sector as it recovered from the pandemic.

In spring 2022, 35 Oakville restaurants participated in the event; a number which the organizing committee projects will grow in 2023.

To assess the event’s impact on local culture and economy, Taste of Oakville organizers collected 337 surveys on their website. A majority of participants (66%) indicated that the event encouraged them to eat at a restaurant they had never tried before, and all/most restaurants reported an uptick in business over the three-week event.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport qualified the event’s funding eligibility based on: leadership’s ability to deliver successful events, the event’s potential to draw in visitors and reconnect with the Oakville community, the event’s ability to encourage increased spending in Oakville’s hospitality sector, the extent to which Taste of Oakville supports local employment, and the potential for media exposure.
