Sean O’Meara began his tenure as chair of Visit Oakville’s board of directors at the organization’s Annual General Meeting last week. The Regional and Ward 1 Councillor replaces Philippa Durbin who completed her term as chair.

Durbin, director of sales at the Holiday Inn Oakville Centre, will continue with the board as past chair.

Visit Oakville also welcomed three new directors to the board – Adrienne Gordon, executive director of the Downtown Oakville BIA, Clint Israel, president of CAMERON’S Brewing Co., and Charles Shifrin, revenue manager with Hilton Worldwide.

Together, along with Daniela Fonseca, LL.B., KMB Law, Victoria Mida, CPA, CA, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Drew Redden, Oakville Chamber of Commerce and Julian Kingston, Oakville Museum, the Visit Oakville board has both the experience and commitment to position Oakville as a premiere destination for those near or far.

“I am honoured to be leading such a great organization,” said Councillor O’Meara. “We see the challenges ahead as opportunities to support our local tourism industries and work to highlight just how incredible Oakville is to visit and enjoy.”

O’Meara, who was first elected in 2014 and re-elected in 2018, has been an invaluable member of the Visit Oakville board since 2016, where he has taken leadership roles in the organization’s strategic planning and governance review. In his new role, O’Meara will continue to aide Visit Oakville’s efforts to support local tourism businesses as the industry rebuilds from the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meggan Gardner of Golf Canada and Doug Sams with Kerr Village BIA completed their terms on the Visit Oakville board.  Kristen Thomason, formerly of iFLY, left the board earlier this year to pursue a new opportunity outside of Oakville.
