Since the time I became the Visit Oakville ambassador, the one thing I wanted to do was go on a food crawl across Oakville. With fall upon us, I couldn’t think of a better time to put a twist on this idea and indulge in my own little dessert crawl. From mini cupcakes, pumpkin spice lattes, and scones to sugar cookies and tarts, there’s a lot that Oakville has to offer. Follow me as I eat my way through Oakville’s sweetest stops and put on a few calories!
Here is a list of businesses that are offering fall specials this magical month:
Besides their soft and spongy loaves of bread and their delectable cinnamon buns, Cobs has something new for fall, pumpkin scones! They’re baked fresh every day with pumpkin purée, aromatic spices including cinnamon and nutmeg, and topped with decadent cream cheese icing and caramel drizzle. We packed our box, have you?
I have always loved this Talk of the Town Award-winning shop for the gorgeous interior, the magnificent chandelier and their striking wedding cakes. This fall, they’re also offering some delightful treats that taste remarkable and look equally ravishing. They have fall-themed sugar cookies with royal icing – think pumpkins and turkeys. They also have pumpkin spice cakepops. But the best of them all is their 5” adorable turkey cake! They can make them in any flavour and can customize it too.
With so many Halloween cookies displayed right at the entrance of the store, one is nothing but spoilt for choices at Black Forest Pastry Shop. Pick up some spooky cookies in the shapes of bats, Frankenstein, skeletons, skulls, Smurfs, pumpkins and more! For all your pumpkin needs, this Talk of the Town Award-winning bakery also has muffins, tarts, and huge pies!
This can’t-miss dessert shop has a lot for the upcoming Halloween season. For starters, their beverage menu includes Pumpkin spiced everything- Chai Lattes, Spiced Lattes, Cream Iced Americanos, Spiced Affogatos, pumpkin Pie Hot Chocolates and Spice Frappes. We tried their vanilla cupcakes with pumpkin topping and went “oh my gourd”! We also liked their sugar cookies with the pumpkin face! Want ice cream? They got you covered. Try their cinnamon pumpkin ginger molasses cookie – a combination of cinnamon gelato and pieces of cookies.
This whimsical little bakery is one of those hidden gems that is not to be missed. For this fall, they have pumpkin spice cupcakes with cinnamon cream cheese frosting, apple crumble bars with caramel drizzle and pumpkin spice cheesecakes topped with whipped cream. If this hasn’t got your attention yet, they have more! They will be releasing spooky cookie sammies, Frankenstein Rice Krispie pops, pumpkin buttercream iced cookies and personalized pumpkin sugar cookies!
Though this tiny bakery with an old-world charm is well known for their freshly-baked bread, you should also look out for their pumpkin pies, tarts and apple-cherry turnovers. However, the standout dish will be their Portuguese puffs served with stew. What makes it special is that the dough for the puffs is made from pumpkin.
Besides their amazing carrot cake (which is famous across borders), Chestnut Café is selling pumpkin gelato this season. Get your cup with two big scoops of ice cream, soak in the sun on their patio or head to the harbour and enjoy this orange treat.
Put in your order for customizable cupcakes at this cute café in Bronte. I got myself a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting and Oreo crumbs, but the tiny detailing of a tiny tombstone, skull and bones on the cupcake was what made it extra special. Having a Halloween party? This is where you should get your cupcakes from!
Never say no to ice cream, especially at Best Ice Cream Talk of the Town Award-winner, the Flavour Fox. We mixed and matched a little and got ourselves pumpkin spice and pistachio! They also have artisan gelato, vegan sorbet and gelato at their store. Looking for something warm- check out their gourmet hot chocolate made in four varieties – dark, milk, peanut butter, and salted caramel.
This bakery has recently introduced their fall menu that includes carrot cake, chai late, muffins, harvest sugar cookies, mini pumpkin loaf, pecan pie, pumpkin chai scones, pumpkin pie, Thanksgiving mini cupcakes, salted caramel cupcake and cake, and red velvet cake. Phew! Plus, their patio is open so you can enjoy their treats in the crisp fresh air.
While you might be gravitating towards this bakery’s cheesecake or carrot cake, this season we suggest you try their new arrivals. They are introducing pumpkin pies, pumpkin flan and a coffee cake closer to Thanksgiving. Yumm!
Another hidden gem, this little store has quite a few treats coming up this fall. We couldn’t resist their coconut cream pie which is super filling and creamy. They will also be introducing pumpkin spice cupcakes, sugar cookies and apple crumble pie!
With so many options to choose from, make sure this month is filled with fall flavours from local bakeries and patisseries in Oakville.
