Oakville, ON – Visit Oakville has announced the creation of a Tourism Investment Fund (TIF) to provide financial assistance to organizations looking to host premium events in Oakville.
Funds will be awarded up to a maximum of $5,000 to not-for-profit groups whose Oakville-based event will generate a minimum of 20 total room nights in local accommodations.
Eligible events include new or existing regional, provincial, national and international tournaments and events, conferences, symposiums and AGMs.
“This is a great opportunity to grow events that could bring thousands of people to Oakville,” says Visit Oakville executive director Rebecca Edgar. “Through the TIF, we will be able to partner with local stakeholders and drive visitor spending into surrounding hotels, shops, restaurants and businesses.”
The TIF evaluation criteria will analyze the number of anticipated room nights, the ability of an event to leave a legacy in Oakville, the potential for additional economic impact and the possibility of continuation.
Visit Oakville will accept applications throughout 2020, but they advise that it is best practice to submit an event at least two months prior to its start date.
“There are so many local organizations that could really benefit from something like this,” Says Joni McPhail, Skate Oakville skating director. “This kind of partnership could help elevate new and existing events to a provincial, national and world-class stage.”
Applications for 2020 events are available now through visitoakville.com.
