Visit Oakville’s September InstaMeet is less than a week away and we have the ultimate guide to help you properly prepare!

Never been to an InstaMeet before?

Don’t know what an InstaMeet is?

Fear not!

Take stock of these 5 things you need to attend an InstaMeet and you’ll be a veteran in no time…

1. Camera

Photography event + camera = success!

Let’s face it, it’s pretty hard to participate in a photography-centric event without something to capture the moments. You don’t need to be a professional photographer and you don’t need professional equipment. All you need is an explorative attitude and something that is built for picture-taking. This includes:

  • Digital camera
  • Phone camera
  • DSLR
  • Disposable camera
  • Box camera
  • GoPro
  • Camcorder
  • Polaroid Camera

And anything else you can think of to capture a moment.

2. Social media account

While we welcome anyone who wants to explore our town, take pictures and socialize, we want to be able to see all of your amazing photographs after the fact. An InstaMeet is meant to help people connect with like-minded creative types in person and through social media once an event is finished. Connect with us and many more on our social media accounts by using event-specific hashtags and tagging the people you meet along the way.

You don’t need thousands of followers and you don’t need to be an influencer. We simply want to help people stretch their artistic minds and discover new beauty.

The hashtags for our upcoming event are:

  • #OakvilleInstaMeet
  • #VisitOakville
  • #OP125

3. An interest in taking photos

InstaMeets are meant for photography lovers of all ages and experience levels. You could be a professional photographer or it could be your first time picking up a camera. It doesn’t matter as long as you’re interested in coming out, challenging yourself and exploring a new artistic outlet.

Just keep your thumbs out of the way!

4. Comfortable shoes and clothing

Put the heels and suits away because InstaMeets are fun and interactive walking tours! You’ll be spending an hour or more exploring new places by foot so it’s important to wear comfortable clothes, slather on the sunscreen and bring your own water.

Here are a few other things that might help:

  • Hat
  • Gloves
  • Sunglasses
  • Breathable clothing (or warm clothing depending on the season)
  • Backpack
  • Snacks

5. A desire to learn and meet new people

InstaMeets are a fun and interactive way for you to meet new people and learn new skills. This is a great chance to interact with experienced photographers, try new techniques, make new connections and build your creative portfolio. You don’t have to be the most outgoing person, just come with an open mind and some good icebreakers!

Here are a few conversation starters to get you going:

  • What are your greatest fears in life?
  • Have you felt supported by your parents?
  • What do you think the meaning of life is?

…Okay, maybe don’t start with questions as personal as these, but you get the idea! Explore new places, take new photos and make new friends.

Now that you’re ready and equipped, join us at the Visit Oakville September InstaMeet on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Bronte Creek Provincial Park as we explore their beautiful grounds during their amazing Harvest Festival!

See you there!
