Oakville Museum Gardens: Over 150 Years in Bloom
Location: Oakville Museum, 8 Navy St, Oakville
Time: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Unearth the rich, evolving history of the gardens at Erchless Estate in a talk that will travel through centuries of an ever-evolving landscape shaped by tradition, culture, and care.
Your journey begins as we talk about the land’s Indigenous heritage, exploring how flora was used for nourishment, healing, and ceremony. Trace the transformation of the gardens through the 19th and 20th centuries, when the Chisholm family cultivated practical kitchen gardens and introduced a romantic ornamental rock garden in the 1920s inspired by the era’s horticultural ideals.
Each generation left its mark on this historic green space. After the talk, visitors will join us for a guided walk through the gardens to experience their beauty and legacy firsthand, followed by an engaging indoor tour that uncovers the deep roots and layered history of the estate.
Cost: $15
