Here’s all you need to know about the sport in Oakville!

If you’re looking for a fun, engaging and social sport to add to your routine, it’s time to pick up a paddle and play pickleball!  Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or new to the game, Oakville offers a plethora of options to enjoy this rapidly growing sport.

Pickleball has quickly become an extremely popular sport among people of all ages. The sport is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping pong and it’s played on a smaller court with a paddle and plastic ball. Here are a few reasons why you should give pickleball a try:

  • Easy to learn: The rules are simple making it accessible for beginners.
  • Great exercise: It’s a low-impact sport that offers a good workout without putting too much strain on the body.
  • Social and fun: Pickleball is a social game, perfect for making new friends and enjoying some friendly competition.
  • All ages: It’s suitable for everyone, from kids to seniors, making it a great family activity.

The game starts with an underhand serve from behind the baseline, diagonally to the opposite service box. The serve must clear the net and bounce once before the receiver can hit it back. The rally continues until one side commits a fault, such as hitting the ball out of bounds or into the net. The serving side can only score points, and the game is usually played to 11 points.

One of the most important rules of pickleball is the no-volley zone, also known as the kitchen. This is a 7-foot area on both sides of the net, where players are not allowed to hit the ball in the air, or step into while volleying.
