Saturday, April 6, 2019 - Sunday, April 7, 2019
Masterworks is pleased to announce our final concert of the season – REQUIEM by John Rutter.
On Saturday, April 6th at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 7th at 3 p.m., we will continue our season of performing the works of living composers by performing this modern masterpiece at the beautiful St. Matthew Catholic Church at 1150 Monks Passage, Oakville.
Also on the programme is Charles Demuynck It Is What It Is, Ronald Royer Psalm 98: Sing to the Lord a New Song (World Premiere), Ronald Beckett These Are Thy Glorious Works (World Premiere of Orchestral Version).
This concert is organized to reflect the religious season of Lent, progressing into Easter. The first half is the beloved Requiem of John Rutter, arguably the most famous living choral composer. A work of deep beauty and comfort, this soulful piece exploits choral sound to its fullest.
The second of the half of the concert features three Ontario composers, with upbeat, life-affirming themes.
Charles Demuynck, Artistic Director, reflecting on the concert programme states “My own piece It Is What It Is, is an exploration of the difficulties of life and a way to find a positive response to them. Ronald Beckett’s These Thy Glorious Works, with words from Milton’s Paradise Lost, is a stirring and exciting piece, which will be conducted by the composer himself. Finally our concert is capped by a short and exciting world premiere piece, Sing unto the Lord a New Song by Ronald Royer. We’re proud of this concert and know you will enjoy it!”
Our soloists are Oakville native Alexander Bowie baritone, and Sara Schabas soprano.
We hope you will join us for this extraordinary reflection and celebration of life.
Tickets are $30 adults, $25 senior, $10 for students and children 10 and under are free.
