Hedda Roman - Rogue Planet
Date: June 22, 2024 - September 28, 2024
Location: Oakville Galleries at Centennial Square, 120 Navy Street, Oakville.
This exhibition by the German artist duo Hedda Roman delves into the complexities of fictional biography, origin, and identity. Hedda Roman have been employing and collaborating with AI technologies in their work for some time. Central to this exhibition is Oldboy, an avatar and Latent Space Traveller, whose poetic dialogues bridge digital realms with reality.
This exhibition not only explores themes of appropriation, conquest, and the friction between the Self and Propaganda but also questions the very notion of identity in the age of machine learning. Oldboy's existence challenges traditional concepts of origin and identity, reflecting the transformative impact of digital technologies and artificial intelligence on our understanding of selfhood.
Set against the backdrop of the Sunset Kino 2024 theme "Everything is a Lie," Rogue Planet invites visitors to reconsider identity in the context of digital narratives and propaganda. It prompts a reflection on how machine learning and digital technologies shape, distort, and reconstruct our perceptions of identity and reality. Hedda Roman's exhibition is designed to be an engaging, thought-provoking experience, intertwining art, technology, and human experience to explore these pressing contemporary issues. Rogue Planet offers a unique perspective on the narratives that shape our world, encouraging deeper contemplation on the influence of digitalization on identity and the authenticity of our personal and collective stories.
