Oakville’s Canada Day 2021

Jul 01, 2021

You're invited to celebrate Canada Day a little differently this year.

Helping our residents stay connected at a safe distance, the town is offering Canada Day activities for everyone to enjoy from their car, outdoors or at home and encouraging personal reflection on what it means to be Canadian.

Please remember to follow Provincial regulations and public health guidelines, such as keeping a two-metre distance from others, and wearing a mask when physical distancing is a challenge

Tree and flower drive-thru giveaway on Tuesday June 29 and Wednesday, June 30 from 3 to 7 p.m.

Back for another year, Oakville residents are invited to pick up a native tree, plant or flower and plant it on their property on Canada Day. To make it safe and easy for residents to participate, the native tree and flower giveaway will be a drive-thru event at one of two locations:

Special giveaways will be offered during the tree, plant and flower pick-up times while supplies last.

Residents are reminded to follow proper health precautions, including the use of face coverings and to remain in their vehicles at all times.

Art in our parks

Public art plays an important role in building community, promoting dialogue and fostering a sense of belonging. Throughout summer, starting July 1, Oakville’s temporary public art project “ConNextions” will offer unique installations on display at the following local neighbourhood parks:

  • Shell Park, 3307 Lakeshore Road West
  • Westwood Park, 170 Wilson Street
  • Oakville Centre for Performing Arts at Centennial Square, 130 Navy Street
  • Glen Abbey Recreation Centre, 1415 Third Line
  • Memorial Park, 120 Oak Park Boulevard
  • Pondview Pond Walk, 490 Pondview Place
  • Lions Valley Park, 1227 Lions Valley Road

The experience offers unique art installations on display by local emerging and professional artists with strong connections to Oakville.

If a park is busy when you arrive, please consider returning at a different time or visiting a different location.

Join us virtually on Canada Day!

Our virtual celebrations event will include greetings from Mayor Burton, a land acknowledgement and reflection, virtual activities, and performances by Natasha Wandel and Penny Johnson. All performances will also be posted to the Town of Oakville’s YouTube channel.
