7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join us at the Oakville Museum for a presentation by retired Major Eva Martinez, the first female United Nations military observer during Canada’s peacekeeping mission to Guatemala in 1997.
Eva’s story touches on the challenges of being the only female on the mission while also facing the trials of living in a remote location, disarming rebel warriors at the end of the longest civil war in Latin America and seeing the impoverished conditions in which the people of Guatemala lived. Eva will emphasize the life lessons that helped her to succeed on this particular mission as well as in life.
Then enjoy a Q&A panel discussion with peacekeepers Phil Badanai, Mike O’Brien, Percy Purpura and Greg Munz. Visit our exhibition page for more information about Preserving Peace: Souvenirs of Peacekeeping.
