Celebrate Freedom at Oakville’s Emancipation Day Picnic and Bicycle Tour.

Mark your calendars for Civic Holiday Monday for a bicycle ride and picnic you won’t want to miss.  Join Cycle Oakville on Monday August 5th as we learn about Oakville’s ties to the Underground Railroad.  This leisurely bicycle ride will start with coffee at 10 am at the Taste of Colombia in Bronte Village.
We will depart around 10:30 am and visit historical landmarks from Bronte to Downtown Oakville.  The ride will end at the Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate for the annual Emancipation Day Picnic and visit to the permanent exhibit, The Underground Railroad: Next Stop Freedom at the museum.

The annual picnic kicks off at 1 p.m. and is hosted by the Oakville Museum in partnership with the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton (CCAH).

The picnic, which commemorates August 1, 1834 – the day slavery was abolished in Canada and throughout the British Empire, will include a number of fun activities, performances and musical fun for the entire family.
